Reflection and New Challenges

 

Reflection: 

    This 5 minutes film test initially conducted a preliminary test to ascertain the feasibility of achieving the balance between subjective and objective perspectives within personal documentaries by camera angles, camera positions, combinations of character shots, and the incorporation of personal narration.   Through this exploration, it became evident that achieving absolute objectivity within personal documentaries is unattainable.   Objectivity, in this context, pertains to the equitable portrayal of each individual's state, endeavoring to achieve visual parity.   The utilization of multiple camera setups was observed to facilitate a more comprehensive data collection process, thereby enhancing viewers' comprehension of the filmmaker's underlying intentions.

    Concerning my graduation project, the overarching research inquiry revolves around the integration of personal documentaries and narrative cinema.  I aim the first half of the final film to reconstruct my father's pre-departure life in the format of a narrative film, providing viewers with an insight into my personal history and prompting my own confusion.  Subsequently, I intend to chronicle the process of seeking answers through the lens of a documentary film, with the ultimate aim of creating a docudrama.

    Future research endeavors will continue to focus on refining techniques to seamlessly amalgamate narrative film and personal documentaries.   These endeavors will involve meticulous attention to detail in areas such as camera angle transitions, color grading during editing, and the strategic use of narration.  

    这次5分钟的电影测试，初步进行了一个初步的测试，以确定在个人纪录片中，通过镜头角度、镜头位置、人物镜头的组合、个人叙事的结合，实现主观视角与客观视角平衡的可行性。通过这一探索，很明显，在个人纪录片中实现绝对的客观性是不可能的。在这种情况下，客观性是指公平地描绘每个人的状态，努力实现视觉上的平等。观察到多个摄像机设置的使用有助于更全面的数据收集过程，从而增强观众对电影制作人潜在意图的理解。

    关于我的毕业设计，首要的研究探究是围绕个人纪录片和叙事电影的融合展开的。我希望在最后一部电影的前半部分，以叙事电影的形式，重构父亲离开前的生活，让观众看到我个人的历史，也引发我自己的困惑。随后，我打算通过纪录片的镜头来记录寻找答案的过程，最终目的是创作一部纪实片。

    未来的研究工作将继续专注于改进技术，以无缝地融合叙事电影和个人纪录片。这些努力将包括对细节的细致关注，如镜头角度转换、编辑期间的色彩分级和叙事的策略使用。

New Challenges: 

• Maintaining Authenticity and Objectivity: 
• The essence of documentaries lies in truthfulness, while narrative films can employ fictional techniques to tell stories. Therefore, when merging the two, maintaining authenticity and objectivity is paramount to avoid exaggeration or distortion of facts.
• Unity of Story:
• Documentaries and narrative films have different narrative styles and pacing. When combining them, it is crucial to ensure the unity and coherence of the story to prevent audience confusion.
• Balancing Emotional Engagement and Objectivity:
• Filmmakers often have emotional involvement when dealing with real events and individuals in documentaries, while narrative films rely on fictional techniques to evoke emotional resonance.  When integrating the two, striking a balance between emotional engagement and objectivity is necessary to ensure the story is both moving and authentic.
