Reflection and New Challenges

Image
Reflection:       This 5 minutes film test initially conducted a preliminary test to ascertain the feasibility of achieving the balance between subjective and objective perspectives within personal documentaries by camera angles, camera positions, combinations of character shots, and the incorporation of personal narration.   Through this exploration, it became evident that achieving absolute objectivity within personal documentaries is unattainable.   Objectivity, in this context, pertains to the equitable portrayal of each individual's state, endeavoring to achieve visual parity.   The utilization of multiple camera setups was observed to facilitate a more comprehensive data collection process, thereby enhancing viewers' comprehension of the filmmaker's underlying intentions.      Concerning my graduation project, the overarching research inquiry revolves around the integration of personal documentaries and narrat...

It can intended to provide audience with enhanced clarity regarding their behavioral dynamics. Furthermore, the wide shots this year effectively encompassed both the computer and myself, so that the audience can better see the interaction betw...

Balance of the perspective: Use social issues as part of the documentary's objective perspective

Citation:  Rosenthal, A., & Eckhardt, N. (2016).  Writing, directing, and producing documentary films and digital videos  (Fifth ed.). Southern Illinois University Press. Annotation:  In the fifth section, "Family Films," the author primarily delves into the methodology of producing family documentaries. The author posits that family documentaries predominantly manifest in two distinct forms: insider films and diary films. Insider Film: Here, filmmakers adopt the role of impartial observers, employing authentic recording techniques to capture intimate scenes and moments. Diary Film: In this approach, filmmakers transition from a third-person to a first-person narrative, documenting their own stories and scrutinizing the evolution of character traits over time. Filmmakers engage in introspective analysis of their past experiences, endeavoring to reconcile with their personal histories, while also addressing pertinent societal issues within the film's narrative. Balance of the perspective: Use of 3 cameras for interviews

Image
Citation: Rosenthal, A., & Eckhardt, N. (2016).  Writing, directing, and producing documentary films and digital videos  (Fifth ed.). Southern Illinois University Press. Annotation: In part 5"Special Cases", the author mainly talks about the use of camera in interview documentary. When the director appears in the documentary as a member of the interviewees, the following three camera angles can balance the subjectivity and objectivity of the documentary. Camera 1:  Looks directly into the camera.  The camera position here can be facing the interviewer, and there is only one person in the picture (can be close-up), increasing authority and subjectivity. The audience can make better eye contact with the interviewee through the picture Camera 2: Th e oblique angle.  This eases the pressure of the interview and is a friendly camera Angle. This avoids direct visual contact between the interviewer and the audience Camera 3: Two-person interview. If the reco...
